1. It all started with simple wood scraps.
Working at a furniture shop, I saw beautiful pieces of wood constantly piling up in the corner. They weren't necessarily being thrown away, but seeing those high-quality scraps just sitting there, unused, felt like such a waste. That’s where Koppa Design began. The name "Koppa" comes from the Japanese word for wood scraps. My starting point was simply taking those overlooked pieces and turning them into something functional again.
2. Lighting changes everything.
I started with small items like trays and vases, but soon I became obsessed with lighting. I realized that lighting is the most essential element in defining the mood of a room. Just one light can make a space feel softer and warmer. I love how a single lamp can shift the entire temperature of a room, and that’s why lighting has become a core focus of my work today.
3. Character in the Room.
Now, I’m building furniture too. I want to create pieces that make a space feel more joyful just by being there. Whether it’s a unique form or a mix of different materials, I aim to express a distinct character through my work—something that’s fun just to look at.
